London Weekend – Best City Visit Yet
We had a weekend in London where we got to go to Wimbledon,
view our student apartments for the end of the trip, and walk around the city.
We were staying on the South-East end of London on the Canning Town stop on the
Jubilee line of the tube. You could tell the whole city was getting ready for
the mass millions to come to London in just one short month. Some things I
noticed were that the transportation systems all had posters up about changing
your daily route during the games on the tube and buses. The streets had paved
new lanes on the roads calling them “Olympic lanes” with the rings under them
where you could only be driving in the lane if you were going to an Olympic
event. If caught driving in the Olympic lanes without proof of a ticket, you
would be fined 180 pounds or more!
We walked
around the city, on probably the only sunny and warm day we’ve had so far, and
did a few site seeing trips around London. We visited Buckingham palace,
Westminster Abbey, The London Eye, The Tower of London and got some great
pictures and views of the Tower Bridge holding the Olympics rings (pictures
below). It was a fun way to spend a
weekend in London. A few of us went out to Piccadilly Circus and enjoyed dinner
and watched the end of the Wimbledon matches in the pubs. I am excited to move
to London permanently at the end of the trip. I love the places we have visited
but the constant moving and living out of a suite case is exhausting – not to
mention I need to do so much laundry it’s a joke (I’ve done it twice – once in
a sketchy laundry matt and once in our bathtub when we bought hand washing
laundry soap). I spend 45 POUNDS to have our hotel in London wash my clothes.
They don’t have laundry machines in the hotel you have to pay for laundry and
cry cleaning and I would never spend that much money regularly but I had to! I
had a weekend bag and everything was wrinkled, dirty and gross. My other option
was to buy all new things and then not have a place to put them in my already
stuffed suitcase (I get made fun of on the daily for having the biggest
“weekend” travel bag out of our whole trip of 42 students). Tomorrow we are
going to tour Wembley stadium and Arsenal’s Emirates stadium! Cannot Wait!
